2025 Walkathon Fundraising for “Chung Chi Theological Education Fund' and "Chung Chi College Project E"

Event Date:
2025-03-09 (Sun) 3:00pm to 8:30pm

Fundraising Objective

Chung Chi Theological Education Fund

Although our institution is part of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, we do not receive government funding. Our financial support relies on the support from Chung Chi College, supporting denominations, various donations from churches and individuals. The "Chung Chi Theological Education Fund" was established in 2019 to alleviate the financial pressure on the school regarding faculty expenses. This fund is dedicated to supporting the hiring of new teachers, ensuring the continuity of our faculty team during a peak period of retirements. We express our heartfelt gratitude to the Lord for the generous support from students, alumni, and all our partners. Within four years, we have successfully reached the initial fundraising goal of HK$6 million, which has been fully allocated to the hiring of three new assistant professors to strengthen our teaching team.

However, during this transitional period, we must continue to raise funds for the "Chung Chi Theological Education Fund" to support the expenses of new teachers, as we are now entering the second phase of fundraising. Over the past two years, our walkathon has generated approximately HK$2.2 million for the fund, but we anticipate still needing HK$4.8 million to cover the expenses for new faculty members.

Chung Chi College Project E

Founded in 1951, Chung Chi College has experienced over half a century of development. However, some College hostels and student development facilities have become increasingly obsolete. Coupled with the growing number of students, this has led to a significant shortage of activity space and hostel accommodations, which fail to meet the current needs of students. In response to these challenges and to promote the College’s long-term development and educational philosophy, Project E has been launched to construct extensive indoor and outdoor activity and hostel spaces for students, academic staff, and alumni.

Project E Twin Buildings are in a prime location next to the University MTR station, with a total construction floor area of approximately 12,000 square meters. The development consists of a high block, which will include a student hostel with around 300 places and a Digital Cultural and Art Creativity Centre. The low block will house 24 staff quarters and an Alumni Activity Centre. Both buildings will feature sky gardens, enhancing the campus's green spaces. The old staff quarters Block E was demolished in early 2024, and construction for Project E is progressing rapidly. The project is expected to be completed in the 2026-27 academic year. The estimated construction cost is HK$550 million. After accounting for government subsidy and College funding, the fundraising target for Project E is HK$180 million. With the generous support from various parties, over HK$50 million has already been raised for Project E; approximately HK$130 million* remains to be secured through continued support from the community.

85% of the funds raised will be allocated to the "Chung Chi Theological Education Fund," and 15% will be donated to the "Chung Chi College E Project."
